Jeff Bezos — 'I wanted a woman who could get me out of a Third World prison. Life's too short to hang out with people who aren't resourceful.'
I think the sheer ludicrousness of this got underscored when other business executive, Carlos Ghosn of Nissan was infact helped by his wife in fleeing from Japan.
Of those of us who think about relationships, specially marriage — I think an incredibly large number think about it in terms of inherited attributes e.g. blonde hair and not attitudes e.g resourcefulness.
Is this because attributes, specially visual ones are inherently easier to assess as compared to attitudes? Is it a classic case of lazy human thinking, and Bezos simply out-thinking the rest of us mere-mortals?
I don’t quite know. Anyway, this inspired me to think about what I’d want in a long-term romantic relationship. At the risk of being a little tongue-in-cheek, I think the best analogy I could come up with is this:
Parle G
Parle G is a simple, straightforward biscuit.
It makes a simple promise and then keeps it. It’s simplicity itself is partially what makes it so remarkable.
It’s energizing! It’s literally flour, glucose and vegetable oil.
It’s a high integrity brand. Not to mention that the brand has lived and grown with the integrity comparable to the best advertised brands like Tata.
Lastly, Parle G to me, means the comforting warmth of a familiar time. It’s not exotic or exciting like Oreo, but it’s familiar.
That is all I want: people who keep promises, energizing and act with integrity :)
Preference for familiarity is one of the most primal human tendencies, which of course helped us survive through evolution, but must be treated with scepticism in today's world. For example, Parle G might be reminiscent of good ol' days but is not as healthy as, say Marie Light. And be careful not to fall for an illusion of familiarity, since the Parle G we remember from childhood isn't the Parle G in market today. It has been rebranded as Parle G Gold ;)
